Ode to Al Jeda
“Come riding!” they said.
“It’s not very far
Only 6 hours
To get there by car.”
We drove along
In dawn’s early light
To check it all out
To find our delight.
“Come riding!” they said
“It’s not very far
Just 40 kilometres
You’ll be back in 5 hours.”
We rode along
At walk trot and canter
Friendships we formed
Amidst all the banter.
“Come riding!” they said
“It’s not very far
Each ride it gets easier
But rider beware!”
Such joy and such pleasure
Is scarcely found
With two feet standing
Upon the hard ground.
“Come riding!” they said
“It’s not very far
Your horse has wings
Let him take flight.”
So, riding I went, it seems long ago.
That first 40 k’s, where the love did grow.
And now each weekend, you know where I’ll be
With Al Jeda,
Each time they call
“Come riding!” to me.

Our commiseration to you both for the loss of a great and noble stallion but also our deepest heart felt thanks for this opportunity!

ANZAC WEEKEND 2014
Upon Anzac day we did gather
Some 90 or more riders
Greeting each other with much excited chatter.
Today was the day to vet the horses in
To see who would qualify
To take the up the challenge.
With the vetting all done,
Ponies watered and fed
A call through the camp
“Ride Briefing! All must attend.”
Across the paddock we all made our way
To where the first campfire burnt
The sun sinking below the mountains around us.
As the sun said goodbye
We all bowed our heads.
A minute of silence,
Lest We Forget.
We listened to Rick as the rules of the race were laid down
It would be a hard ride, the very next day
And check points?
Hell, what are they!
The world’s best kept secret for us to discover
As Pony and Rider needed somewhere to recover!
In dawns early light,
Like the diggers before us, our ponies we mounted
Their heads all tossing, some whinnied, some neighed.
All stamping and prancing, eager to be on their way.
The track, it was steep, the ponies were blowing
The summit appeared,
This view laid before us was why we're here.
For a moment we paused and looked all around
The gentle breeze blowing, whispering the only sound.
Back to work, Now how to get down?
The only thing for it, to walk.
To lead down the ponies, and hope they don’t fall.
Safely on flat land once again,
Damn! The time, we'll have to trot them all in!
With only minutes to spare the riders appeared.
At the finish line they were met.
20 Minutes! Then back to the vet!
10 riders set out and came back
All ponies worked hard, and needed a rest.
As the day wound up, presentations were made.
The Riders, the Ground Crews, the Vets, TPR’s, Cooks and Organizers all thanked.
Everyone agreeing the day was all worth it, some making plans to come back in a year.
And as we drove home,
I thought of the Anzacs
And their horses, the walers.
The lighthorsemen forced to leave their ponies behind.
I gave thank that their lives were not all for naught.
For on the hills surrounding the dog on the tuckerbox,
We remember them still.

MALAYSIA-THAILAND-SINGAPORE OPEN ENDURANCE CHALLENGE TROPHY 2013
December saw us travel to Khao-Yai Thailand to compete in the CEI 1* 85km Malaysia-Thailand-Singapore Open Endurance Challenge Trophy riding horses from the PRESCO Endurance Stable from Malaysia.
Alam was paired with Glenellen Park Hal (Aust) and Jess was paired with Barry (NZ). Al Jeda Arabians also invited Jan and John Scholes along with Jan riding Tyde Mark Floyd in the 65km event.
The course was run over 3 loops starting at 5:30am Sunday December 22nd. The 1st loop of 38km took us out around farm lands, small communities and up into Khao-Yai National Park. The 2nd loop 27km and 3rd loop 20km took us through the base of the national park and farm lands.
We were sitting towards the back of the field until the 1st VGIH where our horses both breezed through making up time on the front pack! The 2nd leg saw us pick off a few more horses edging us closer to a top 15 placing! By the 3rd and final leg we were only a short time off the front runners! 5km out we caught up to Mr Pun (The Horses Thailand and host of the ride!) Then 3km from the finish the chase started! Our horses gave it all they could and gave Mr Pun a great race! Alam's horse saw the cheering crowd at the finish line and pulled up allowing Jess to cruise past into 9th place! Alam finished in 10th position!
Both horses were presented for BC (Best Condition) and looked amazing and fresh, ready for another leg!
But that's not all! We'd also entered the teams event with Mr Peter and Mr Penn (both completing the ride as well) and we received 3rd place!! Our team was comprised of 1 rider from Singapore, Malaysia, India and Australia!
Jan also completed the 65km event riding with Fendi (Malaysia), Mr Kim (Korea) and Lucy (Singapore).
AL JEDA ARABIANS would like to send our THANKS out to THE HORSES THAILAND for hosting such a great event and a HUGE THANK YOU to Peter, Lucy and the whole PRESCO TEAM for another great successful ride!
